The new Jaguar XFR-S saloon has been unveiled for the first time at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

One of the most hotly anticipated unveilings of the event, the XFR-S delivers stunning performance of 550 bhp through its five-litre supercharged V8 engine, with impressive torque to match of 502 lb-ft.

The vehicle is capable of accelerating from zero to 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds and can reach an electronically-limited top speed of 186 mph. This makes it one of the fastest and most powerful saloon cars on the planet at the moment, with Jaguar keen to highlight the sporting pedigree of the new XFR-S.

Global brand director for Jaguar Cars Adrian Hallmark commented: “Sporting character is evident in all Jaguar saloons.

“In the XFR-S that character has been amplified, the result being a truly engaging car with a combination of technical innovation, assertive design and staggering performance that will satisfy the most demanding of drivers.”

Featuring a number of innovations to further boost handling and performance, the XFR-S utilises Jaguar’s new eight-speed quick shift transmission, as well as dynamic front and rear suspension systems to maximise grip, ride comfort and responsiveness.

Mike Cross, chief engineer for vehicle integrity at Jaguar, said: “What we have given the XFR-S is greater handling capacity, greater precision and greater capability. It’s a car for driving purists – it will feel engaging within the first 50 metres but remains accessible and confidence-inspiring at any speed.”

Furthermore, Jaguar has worked in collaboration with Pirelli to develop bespoke front and rear tyre designs for the XFR-S, with the model benefitting from improved handling and steering responsiveness as a result.

Set to go on sale in the UK from May next year, the model will be one for those with deep pockets, with prices starting from £79,995 on the road.

In addition, the company took the opportunity to make its North American debut for the recently unveiled – and much-anticipated – Jaguar F-Type at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The spiritual successor to the iconic E-Type, the F-Type was first showcased at the Paris Motor Show in September, with the model wowing the crowds.

Its stunning looks and unique design belie some impressive performance statistics, with the sports car offering acceleration from zero to 62 mph in just 4.2 seconds, courtesy of its 5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol engine delivering 495 bhp.

Mr Hallmark stated at the launch ceremony: “Jaguar is a founder member of the sports car segment with a rich sporting bloodline stretching over 75 years, and in the F-Type we’ve reignited that flame.”

Other standout features of the F-Type include an active rear spoiler, which deploys when the vehicle exceeds 120 mph in order to aid stability, as well as ergonomically-grouped controls for the driver inspired by the cockpit of fighter planes.

A range of other manufacturers are taking to the stage at this year’s Los Angeles showpiece to unveil their new designs – with the event open to the public from November 30th to December 9th at the Los Angeles Convention Centre.

The new Porsche Cayman has been upgraded for this year’s event, with a 30 kg weight loss and 40 per cent stiffer chassis to boost its performance and handling.

Its 2.7-litre flat-six cylinder engine is capable of pumping out 275 bhp, while the more powerful 3.4-litre flat-six cylinder variant in the new Cayman S provides 325 bhp.
