Jaguar Combustion Engined Swansong – the F-TYPE ZP Edition
While of course, we should logically be embracing new automotive technology that heralds us towards cleaner roads and better air quality, there is a certain amount of heavy nostalgia that stops us in out tracks.
Jaguar has just announced that its final F-TYPE combustion engined sports vehicle will shortly roll out, as the company heads towards a fully electric persona from 2025 after 75 years of combustion engined beauty.
It is hard not to feel tinged with sadness as an ending within the automotive world draws a little closer.
It does now seem inevitable that the smell, the roar, and the history of brands such as Jaguar will now be consigned to grainy footage and films.
Part of our hesitation is not fully knowing what comes next, and while the likes of Jaguar’s hand is forced somewhat, we must confidently await the future from such classic historical brands.
The Jaguar will cease production of internal combustion engined (or ICE, to shorten it) vehicles next year, and will throw us a swansong with the lovely Jaguar F-TYPE ZP Edition.
It’s a limited edition of course, with just 150 models being built, and a mere 10 that are designated to make it to UK shores – and that is in both coupé and convertible formats.
Each model will arrive with a ‘One of 150’ bespoke plaque.
The F-TYPE ZP Edition will arrive with a choice of two paint configurations, Oulton Blue and Crystal Grey.
Inside the Oulton Blue version sits a tasteful two-tone red and ebony coloured duotone leather interior, while the Crystal Grey gets navy blue along with the ebony.
Both versions feature circular contrasting hand-painted Porcelain White Gloss door markings (roundels) that could nicely house some retro, nostalgic race numbering should you desire.
Porcelain White Gloss grille surrounds also compliment the roundels, though do look more striking on the blue version.
Incidentally, neither paint colour has been available on the F-TYPE previously. Such things certainly do give the ZP Edition a slightly nostalgic feel, and this visual design, curated by SV Bespoke, mirrors the E-type Project ZP from Jaguar Classic, and indeed, each version recalls the very first race-winning Project ZP E-types from 1961.
Each model comes with some very nice Blue Diamond Turned 20-inch forged alloy wheels in gloss black and polished metal.
Power comes from an all-wheel drive system along with IDD (Intelligent Driveline Dynamics).
0-60mph will take you 3.5 seconds. The F-TYPE ZP allows an impressive 700Nm of torque, and each F-TYPE has a top speed which is limited to 186mph.
The original E-Type Jaguar
It’s fitting that Jaguar has chosen the F-TYPE to commemorate the final combustion engined Jaguar sports car, as this heritage-inspired model has been enjoyed by fans and enthusiasts in a very similar way to how the E-type was loved and enjoyed all those years ago.
The F-TYPE, if you need reminding, did rather impressively win the 2013 World Car Design of the Year of course.
