Australian racing icon John Bowe took the supercar for a spin on the Stuart Highway in Australia – which is one of only three derestricted roads on the planet.

Bowe managed to achieve a top speed of 206 mph – meaning at one point the car was covering the distance of one football pitch every second.

Bentley’s GT Speed’s engine set-up offers around 626 bhp and uses 216 litres of coolant per minute to maintain its impressive output.

“This isn’t a modified racecar; it’s a luxurious grand touring road car fresh off the production line. It took us a little over a minute to go from a standstill to 206 mph,” explained the racing legend.

He added: “That’s extraordinary. Even when you break through the 200 mph barrier, the GT Speed just keeps accelerating.”

The Stuart Highway connects Darwin in the Northern Territory to Port Augusta in South Australia and a few years ago the local government took the decision to allow an open speed limit on a 120 mile stretch between Alice Springs and Barrow Creek.

This means it is the perfect location for putting supercars through their paces and really seeing what they are capable of at top speeds.
