Drag racing, hot rods and bikes from an era gone by were the focus for many at the weekend (July 11th to 13th) as fans gathered at the Santa Pod Raceway in Bedfordshire for Dragstalgia.
Motor-Vision’s photographer, Darren Skidmore, was on hand to soak up the action through the lens and show everyone what they missed out on!
The weekend long event saw car displays, live music, flypasts and, of course, racing. In fact, attendees had the chance to take part in some of the races. The kinds of cars that could be seen at the event included hot rods, dragsters, funny cars, altereds and American muscles.
Attendees got free entry to the grandstand, where they were able to see all the racing action go down. Indeed, there was a pretty extensive range of categories for the drag races to be seen.
These races included the Nostalgia Fuel Altered Association of nitro and methanol altereds, Outlaw Street for pre-1980 street-legal muscle cars, Gasser Circus for high riding gassers, Nostalgia Funny Cars for nitro and methanol funny cars and Wild Bunch for slingshots and altereds to name a few.
People coming to the event could register their vehicles to take part in these races. Yet, for those who wanted to drive their car from a bygone era without the sense of competition, there was also the chance to test it out in Run What Ya Brung.
Allowing people to try out their car or motorcycle on the quarter-mile dragstrip, offering the opportunity to see what their car limits are in terms of performance!! Many pre-1980s vehicles took part, including Retro, Classic, Hot Rod and American cars and motorbikes.
Some may have even spotted The Beast, which made an appearance with its 27 Litre, Merlin Engined Rolls Royce.
Even for people who didn’t manage to win a race at the weekend, there were still awards available for their efforts. Trophies were available for the Best Backup Girl or Guy, Lowest ET, Burnout of the Weekend, Wheelstand of the Weekend, Driving Job of the Weekend, Best Appearing Team and the Moment of the Weekend.
Of course, there was an opportunity for those who just wanted to show off their vehicle. As part of Show and Shine, people were able to turn up with their classic vehicle and put it on display, giving them the chance to win a trophy.

For those who just wanted to enjoy the spectacle of these classic vehicles, people were able to enjoy a variety of displays on offer. The Allard Chrysler came down to the event to be viewed, while there was also a Historic Car Display that had cars and motorbikes from drag racing of the past on show. There was also the National Street Rod Association Blast From the Past, which featured some of the UK’s most iconic custom hot rods, such as the Henry Hirise, Silhouette, Andromeda, Revenge and the Belch Beer Truck.
As well as all this, there was also live bands playing, vintage hair styling as well as your usual traders and funfair attractions and a visit from the author of ‘What I Never Told You’ Candy Kyler Brown. Candy’s visit was particularly special as her book has high sentimentality; her father, Staff Sargeant John Roland Kyler, was a Ball Turret Gunner onboard a B17 Flying Fortress which was based at Station 109 RAF Podington which is now more widely known as Santa Pod Raceway. Nice.
