The road to the 84th Geneva International Motor Show is really starting to heat up, as Jaguar announces it will use the event to launch its latest model.
This isn’t just any model either. It is the latest in the XF range, aimed at delivering real-world efficiency and top quality performance, while not skimping on the luxury.
The XFR-S Sportbrake is the first high-performance R-S branded sports estate car from Jaguar and its figures are not something to sniff at.
Under the bonnet is a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine, matched to an eight-speed transmission with Quickshift functionality. This combination allows for the creation of 550PS and 680 Nm of torque.
However, we all know what figures we really want to hear.
The car is one of the few Jaguar models to join the brand’s illustrious 300km/h club. For those who have more experience with the alternative speed measurement system, this equates to a staggering 186mph.
Not only that, despite its almost practical appearance, the car is not going to just stumble out of the blocks. In fact, it will travel from 0-60mph in just 4.6 seconds. Truly stunning.
The extra weight of the body, which many may have assumed would slow the model down, has been handled through the rear suspension, making changes to the rear spring rates and adaptive damper tune to make sure it is still sharp in the corners. According to Jaguar, the main challenge when developing the vehicle is to manage the extra rear mass of the car.
Handling has also been improved through a recalibrated active electronic differential, while Dynamic Stability Control settings have been tweaked to work in perfect harmony with the rear suspension to suit even the most enthusiastic of driver.
The car has been given a deeper front bumper to accommodate lower central and side air intakes, allowing for cooling to make it to the engine bay. A front splitter increases aerodynamics, as do extended side sills and aeroblade mouldings behind the front wheels.
It is delivered with wider, six-spoke, 20-inch lightweight Varuna forged alloy wheels, giving the model a purposeful and muscular stance.
Drivers can choose from a range of five colours to suit their tastes and personalities, including Ultra Blue, Ultimate Black, Stratus Grey, Polaris White and Italian Racing Red.
The model’s attitude has been made just that little bit more edgy through the use of gloss black on areas such as the grille, the side vent, the front and rear screens, the windows and across the bootlid.
It has also been given exclusive tyres, thanks to the experts at Pirelli. The 265/35s found at the front and the 295/30s at the rear will help to improve vehicle handling, steering response and, or course, grip on the road.
Jaguar’s High Performance Braking System will also help to keep drivers safe, thanks to its excellent combination of power, stability and fine modulation.
Drivers are sure to love the 18-speaker system installed in the car, delivered by British audio experts Meridian. It will allow those behind the wheel to listen to their favourite music through a top quality system, wherever they might be going.
