For those who were wowed by the NSX supercar, soon the production equivalent of the Acura NSX will be making its debut.
It is set to appear at the 2015 North American International Auto Show on January 12th 2015. The car’s specifications are intended to be reflective of the specifications of the mid-engine Acura supercar, which is also due to be launched next year.
Speaking about the production model, Acura division senior vice president and general manager Mike Accavitti said: “The next-generation NSX will deliver a ‘new sports experience’ true to its heritage and to the supercar concept that originally gave rise to the name NSX.”
“The NSX will serve as the ultimate expression of Acura performance that is fueling a re-energised brand.”
A concept version of the Acura NSX first made its debut in 2012 at the North American International Auto Show. Honda president and chief executive officer Takanobu Ito said that a next-generation NSX would be launched in three years and that an American research and development team would be in charge of this at a new plant in Ohio.
The Acura NSX is set to be produced exclusively at the new Performance Manufacturing Center that has been opened in Ohio, with a global team of engineers getting behind it. Meanwhile, those working at the Acura Design Studio will be in charge of the car’s design.
Chief engineer and global project leader of NSX development Ted Klaus said that the car builds on NSX heritage and puts the driver at the centre as the supercar responds to their will.
He said: “After three years of intensive development work we are excited to reveal this next-generation supercar — the Acura NSX — to the world.”
The car is still shrouded in a relative amount of mystery at the moment but Acura has released a 30-second teaser video on YouTube to whet people’s appetites, give a glimpse of the production car and allow them to hear the sound of its three-motor twin-turbocharged Sport Hybrid power unit.
