Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Golden Era on the drawing board

At a quick glance, the new Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Golden Era reminds me of the type of traditional Japanese, old-gold on black, art that can be found on historic vases. There is a lot of sweeping curves and finely detailed artwork on this new Bugatti hypercar, making it truly quite unique.

Important Collector Designs ‘Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Golden Era’ Hypercar

The Golden Era is crafted as a one-off celebration of the Bugatti heritage, all based on the design aesthetics and whims of what Bugatti describes as a very important Bugatti collector.

The hypercar itself began 2 years ago and has undergone extensive customisation. It is essentially part of a Bugatti Sur Mesure offering – ‘the pinnacle of customisation’ according to the manufacturer.

The customer wanted to pay particular attention to celebrating the 16-cylinder W16 engine that he believes to be a landmark in creation and the design history that has led to this engine that we have currently.

Bearing The Hallmarks Of Bugatti’s past

The design aspects were to also include landmark moments from within Bugatti’s extensive history; a series of 45 sketches of classic Bugatti cars were carefully hand-drawn onto the car using ink designed to be durable and last a long time.

Bugatti’s MD, Hendrik Malinowski translates ‘Sur Mesure’ as literally being tailored, and it’s this that we see here within the beautiful curves of the Chiron.

The passenger side of the Golden Era features 26 sketches of classic Bugatti models, from the Type 41 Royale, to the Type 57 SC Atlantic, all beautiful cars that certainly left a mark when released in their time; cars that potentially changed the course of history for car manufacturing.

On the driver’s side, the side the new customer will see the most, there are 19 sketches of the rebirth of Bugatti from 1987 to present, including the Veyron, Chiron and the EB110 – and of course, all 3,712 components that go to making up a Bugatti W16 engine.

As the art took shape, the artists began to work on the scale for each item to work within its new canvas, with the end result being a series of pieces of art that look as one rather than a set of individual pieces.

Each piece of art is translated onto the car’s bodywork using pencils, much as the designers would be used to using. All of this careful artwork sits over a colour scheme of Doré Gold and Nocturne Black.

Bugatti Artwork Outside And Within

Hard as it may be after considering the exterior, let’s not forget the inside though.

Each door panel has hand-painted Bugatti icons which are applied using a fine paintbrush allowing the team to be able to sketch onto leather. At this point, I would suspect those who thought that a 2-year project was rather a long time will be rethinking…

During the 2-year period of creation, the owner paid regular visits to eagerly see how his prized possession was progressing, and the final finished one-off Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Golden Era will be handed over to the new owner at Monterey Car Week which begins on Friday.
