All good things must come to an end and the curtain will soon descend on the Hennessey Venom GT – unofficially the world’s fastest car – but not before one last hurrah.
A Final Edition model will represent the closing chapter in the production of the American 270mph+ supercar. The special edition car, which has already been sold for $1.2 million (£950,947), features a stunning glacier blue paint job, finished with thin white stripes running down the centre of the car.
Under the bonnet is the same 1,451bhp twin-turbo seven-litre V8 engine, sourced from GM, that gets the car up to 60mph in 2.4 seconds.
The Venom GT is underpinned by a heavily-modified Lotus Exige chassis, and it retains many body parts from the Norfolk-built sports car.
Most of the bodywork is carbon fibre, helping it achieve a relatively feather-light 1,244kg and a phenomenal power-to-weight ratio of 1,166bhp per tonne.
Hennessey has built just 13 road-going Venom GTs over its seven-year production run, including this Final Edition. The first six Venoms were all hardtops, with the following six being roadsters.
World’s Fastest Car
The Venom GT is sadly best known for locking horns with Bugatti’s flagship Veyron Super Sport in 2014 when it claimed to be the world’s fastest car.
Despite surpassing the Veyron’s 267.8mph with 270.5mph, the speed wasn’t recorded over two runs in opposing directions, which means the Bugatti is the official title holder. Not that founder and CEO John Hennessey cares.
“It was always my dream to build the fastest car and we did just that,” he said.
“Our Venom GT retires as one of the fastest cars on the planet along with being one of the most exclusive.”
So long, Venom GT.
There is literally just one images of the Final Edition but there are shots of other Venom GTs…
