Tailor Made One-off Ferrari 812 Competizione to Be Auctioned in October
The Ferrari 812 Competizione is a car that reminds me of a find, digging in a friend’s garden many many years ago and delighting myself by discovering a Corgi toy Stingray from 1963 in fairly decent condition; if you remember it (and I doubt you will), it was the one with cartoon eyes sketched onto the bonnet… I still have it.
This Tailor Made one-off Ferrari 812 Competizione is the same yellow colour and also has sketched markings – it’s like someone has drawn a car and then imagined it to be real.
The striking look comes from the design mirroring the yellow cards upon which the Maranello designers sketch their first designs and draw their notes as to how the car is to eventually visualised.
It could have looked very wrong, but it actually gives the Ferrari 812 Competizione a fascinating and unique look – it’s hard not to stare, if maybe it is perhaps just a shade busy on the eye.
One curiosity that the design generates is that you might need to take another look at the images before realising that there is no rear windscreen; all the rear-view action arrives courtesy of a rear camera.
Tailor Made Ferrari
The process for creating the 812 Competizione came from a close collaboration between Ferrari’s Tailor Made team and the Styling Centre over a period of two years, with the drawings coming from Ferrari’s Chief Design Officer Flavio Manzoni.
The Tailor Made concept is a one-off among the 999 Ferrari 812 Competizione models in existence, and a plaque sits inside as a testament to the car’s original design ethos.
Inside, the 812 Competizione features a very similar design plan, with more black and yellow throughout and further black sketching on the yellow seats.
A Ferrari Tailor Made design is really all about being an exclusive option for the enthusiast driver to completely personalise their Ferrari.
Each original concept is fed through an expert team of designers to make sure the concept plan becomes a reality that doesn’t disappoint, and a personal designer heads the entire process for each vehicle.
Power comes from a V12 6.5-litre engine with 830hp, offering up what Ferrari says is a sound that ‘Maranello’s 12-cylinder purists know so well’.
The idea here is that the driver (and his or her ears) becomes one with the car, creating an exhilarating and exciting driving experience.
This model has been commissioned by Ferrari North America, and unlike so many eye-wateringly expensive one-off supercars that eventually tend to head off to privacy-seeking owners, this one will be a little different: so, if you want to own this unique ‘Tailor Made’ Ferrari 812 Competizione, then keep an eye on the Ferrari Gala in New York on October 17, where the stunning looking vehicle will be auctioned for charity.
