Top Tip Two – Be Honest

Honesty really is the best policy when it comes to modified car insurance. If you do not declare any modifications and changes that your vehicle has, then it is a large possibility that your insurance will be void if you should ever need to make a claim. Performance Direct state that any car that has additions or alterations to its standard factory specification is what the insurance industry calls a ‘non-standard’ or modified vehicle.’

If you are doubting whether or not your alloy wheels are a modification then ask, it is better to be safe than sorry!

Top Tip Three – Type Of Cover

Think. It is as simple as that. If you are paying through the roof for your premium and the cost is near enough (if not more than) the actual car you drive, then think about the type and level of insurance you are paying for. A fully comprehensive insurance policy all sounds good but is it actually necessary? Try searching for third party, fire and theft and compare, it might save you a few pennies.

Top Tip Four – Pass Plus

For new and younger drivers a pass plus qualification can often lead to discounts and lower insurance. The pass plus shows insurers that you have more driving experience and can be trusted in different situations.

Top Tip Five – Safe Storage

Keeping your modified car in a safe, sheltered place, such as a garage, will increase its security and lower your premium. Insurers will like the fact that it is hidden and secure when not being used.

Top Tip Six – 2nd Car?

A number of modified car owners will also have another car that they use generally. If you fall into this category you may able to take advantage of a second car policy. Most insurers will offer this and it should help to bring the cost of the insurance on the modded car down.

Well, I still think if you have to modify a car and get it insured, buy a Scion. 🙂 It is good in custom making and you will get to choose every inch of its features. 🙂

    Good post
