The Renault Clio just became even more versatile with the release of the all-new E-TECH Hybrid drivetrain. Now, alongside petrol and diesel powertrains, the Clio is also available with a more efficient 1.6 petrol 4-cylinder paired with two electric motors and a powerful battery.

Built upon the modular CMF-B platform, this generation of Clio is able to offer all three drive trains on the same base with the electric option being planned from the start. As the automotive industry moves faster and faster towards the world of electric vehicles, especially now that the UK has moved the combustion engine ban for new cars closer, this seems to be becoming more the done thing. It helps streamline the production and lower costs but also, it’s what a lot of consumers want. Not everyone wants a weird separate electric model, some of us just want the option to be there in the standard models!

The new Clio is the first model to be built on Renault’s modular CMF-B platform, with others due to follow. The real magic, however, is in their new E-TECH powertrain which is responsible for delivering the hybrid power output.

Using technology inspired by the Renault Formula 1 team, the E-TECH system optimises performance and energy consumption with regenerative braking and a multi-mode dog gearbox, a world-first for a production vehicle. The multi-mode clutchless gearbox offers extremely smooth and swift response as well as superior fuel consumption. Renault boasts that the hybrid Clio is capable of completing 80 per cent of urban journeys in 100 per cent electric mode.

Things have improved on the inside as well. The new E-TECH Clio, along with the rest of the range, features interior upgrades in materials, sophistication and atmosphere thanks to ambient lighting, a large 9.3-inch EASY LINK touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster exclusive to the E-TECH hybrid models.

As you would find in an Audi, things like the navigation and economy information can be viewed from the digital gauge cluster. Special animations have been made and implemented into the display to inform the driver of energy flow and battery levels for those looking to optimise their driving in terms of economy.

To sweeten the deal a little more, Renault also offer a comprehensive five-year warranty with unlimited mileage limit in the first two years and eight-year battery warranty and with prices starting from £19,595 OTR in Play specification, we can see many potential consumers swaying towards a Clio over the comparative competition.

The hybrid Clio sure does sound great! Let us know if you would consider getting one, in the comments!
