Anyone who has been reading with interest news concerning the launch of the Polestar 2 might find they can get a closer look at it this summer.

It has been revealed that as part of a promotional drive for the vehicle’s introduction, the performance fastback will be partaking in an ambitious roadshow to tour six of its European launch markets between now and October 2019.

Excitingly, some of the cities it will be visiting are in the UK, meaning members of the public could get a real-life glimpse of it instead of having to make do with photographs.

The Polestar 2 roadshow starts in Sweden, calling off in Stockholm from May 30th until June 2nd, followed by the Netherlands and Belgium later in June.

It’s the UK’s turn in July before the vehicle heads back to the continent to be shown off in Germany and Norway. The European leg of the tour finishes with the first Polestar Space retail environment in Oslo, after which the roadshow moves to the rest of the world.

Chief executive of Polestar Thomas Ingenlath commented: “This is the chance for our customers and fans in Europe to get up close and personal with Polestar 2 for the first time in their home markets.”

An electric vehicle brand jointly owned by Volvo Car Group and Geely, Polestar launched in 2017 with the Polestar 1, a low-volume Electric Performance Hybrid GT. It had an electric-only range of 150km, which was then the longest of any hybrid car in the world.

The Polestar 2 was revealed as the company’s first fully-electric model earlier this year, representing a higher volume premium car designed to compete with the Tesla Model 3.

In an interview with Automotive News Europe, Mr Ingenlath called it a “powerful little beast”, and it’s true that performance has already improved significantly.

Polestar 2 is targeting a range of 275 miles per charge and can go from nought to 62mph in just 4.7 seconds. It has dual motor all-wheel drive and a 150 kW fast charging capability.

It is also unlocked and switched on via a smartphone app – no clumsy and inconvenient keys here!

However, it will come at a price, with the Polestar 2 expected to start at around £40,000. Perhaps get the credit card warmed up now if you want one.
