You can take a look at the new VW Polo from Friday June 16th.
Fans of the Volkswagen Polo are likely to be on tenterhooks this week as they eagerly await the big reveal of the new sixth generation model in a live press conference.
The premiere of the vehicle will be live streamed on the internet, so you won’t need to miss out on taking a first look even if you don’t happen to be in Berlin to attend the event.
It’s all set to happen on Friday June 16th at 10:00 BST or 09:00 GMT, with the link for the broadcast in English here. There’s also a link to the German language version and a social media hashtag to use if you want to chat to fellow car enthusiasts afterwards, which is #VWPolo.
A recording of the press conference will be made available for download in case you want to see the whole thing again – or if you’re working and your boss won’t look too kindly on you slacking for 45 minutes mid-morning while you watch live.
Details about the new Polo have obviously been shrouded in secrecy ahead of this unveiling, but Volkswagen has said it will be more spacious, more comfortable and come with more technological highlights than its predecessor.
Head of design at VW Klaus Bischoff promises that the sixth generation will make a “confident, sporty and emotional impression” and will fit in “perfectly with our times, both visually and technologically”.
Judging by the 2 preview images, the rear of the car doesn’t look quite as curvy as before and has a flatter back window. Auto Express has also heard that the wheelbase is to be stretched to around 2,560 mm, which is likely to be aimed at providing more cabin space for passengers travelling in the rear. We’ll have to wait until Friday before we glean any more details, though!
It comes after the Polo was crowned Supermini of the Year 2016 by Auto Express for the second year in a row.
The fifth generation Polo debuted way back in October 2009 with the S, Moda, SE and SEL and has since had its range expanded to include the MatchEdition, BlueMotion, R-Line, R-Line Style, BlueGT and GTI.
