McLaren has just announced two new track-dedicated models that will be added to its only recently-launched Sports Series. These new models are the 570S GT4 and the 570S Sprint, the first of which is readying to enter an intensive season-long development programme in the British GT championship.
In order to put the model through its paces, it will go through a programme of testing in live race environments. With regards to the 570S Sprint, it’ll be revealed in the coming weeks, and is going to be dedicated for private trackdays meaning that it is unrestricted by pesky racing regulations.
The models have both been developed in conjunction with McLaren GT, the motorsport division of McLaren Automotive, and GT racing specialists, CRS GT Limited. As a track-only model, the 570S GT4 shares the same carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis with the other cars in the Sports Series. However, this the first time this kind of technology has been seen in the GT4 category.
Its lap times are the primary focus of the 570S GT4, which it will be able to attack thanks to a unique aerodynamic package, including a GT4-specification high level rear wing, a larger front splitter and re-profiled floor assembly, among other things.
Further upgrades have been made to ensure that it can perform well under duress of any global racing competition. Powering the model is a McLaren designed and developed 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 M838TE engine from the road-going Sports Series model. It also features a familiar seven-speed seamless shift gearbox that sees the power transferred from the rear wheels to the track.
The 570S GT4 will be making its debut at the opening round of the British GT Championship at Brands Hatch, in the UK over the weekend of April 16th and 17th. More details for the 570S Sprint, with regards to its spec and its pricing, are to be announced over the next few weeks.
