McLaren’s 600LT has launched as the most powerful Sports Series model yet.
The LT sub-brand, short for Longtail, is reserved for the Surrey-based car maker’s most extreme models. Any car with the LT badge boasts increased power, reduced weight, optimised aerodynamics and track-focused dynamics.
Over more than two decades, this is only the fourth car to bear the LT badge, starting with 1996’s McLaren F1 GTR racer and leading up to 2015’s 675LT. The 600LT comes powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, pumping out 591bhp and 620Nm of torque.
Compared to the McLaren 570S Coupe, the 600LT is 96kg lighter with a lightest dry weight of just 1,247kg. This gives the 600LT a phenomenal power-to-weight ratio of 474bhp per tonne. It is also up to 74mm longer than other Sports Series models and features new carbon fibre bodywork, such as a new front splitter, side sills, extended diffuser and fixed rear wing, minimising weight and achieving greater downforce.
Around the back is a unique exhaust system with top-exit pipes that delivers a distinct aesthetic appearance whilst bringing down the car’s weight. The 600LT also comes fitted with bespoke Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres, designed for track-focused dynamics and enhanced driver engagement.
A minimalist, track-focused cabin features extensive use of lightweight alcantara and carbon fibre racing seats, first seen on the McLaren P1. It also borrows the super-lightweight carbon fibre seats developed for the Senna – the most extreme McLaren ever.
Like every McLaren, each 600LT will be hand-built at the McLaren Production Centre in Woking, Surrey, and is available to order now from McLaren retailers priced from £185,500, which is £36,500 more than 570S.
