The fastest Land Rover ever is set to be unveiled as it pulls into Pebble Beach on August 14th.
It will be the first vehicle to wear the SVR badge, representing a new line of high performance models made by Jaguar and Land Rover.
The Range Rover Sport SVR contains a 5-litre V8 supercharged engine, which can produce 550 PS and 680 Nm of torque. That’s an impressive 40 PS and 56 Nm increase on previous models, yet the car does not compromise on fuel economy either.
Of course, what everyone will want to know is what is its top speed? The SVR is electronically limited to 162 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in only 4.5 seconds. When it was tested on the Nurburgring Nordschleife course, it achieved a lap time of eight minutes and 14 seconds. That is one of the fastest times ever recorded by a production SUV.
The capabilities of the SVR when driving on or off road are still high as its four-wheel drive chassis and ZF 8HP70 8-speed automatic transmission have been optimised to make sure the car’s performance is top notch, even in wet conditions.
For the first time, Land Rover has also incorporated a two-stage active exhaust, which comes with electronically controlled valves. The sound quality has also been improved so that the SVR sounds a bit like a race car when it is doing higher revs.
The look of the car has also changed somewhat as it comes with 22-inch alloy wheels and has tyres that add to its performance in the form of 295/40 R22 Continental SportContact 5s.
Managing director of Land Rover Special Operations John Edwards said: “A thorough range of revisions specially developed by Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations combine to make this premium derivative even more distinctive both inside and out, as well as taking its dynamic capabilities to the next level without impacting on comfort, refinement or all-terrain versatility. The Range Rover Sport SVR is truly the world’s most capable performance SUV.”
