What will be there?
The TVR Club will be celebrating four decades of open top motoring, with 2018 marking 40 years since the Blackpool-based sports car company launched its first convertible: the TVR 3000S.
Ferrari fans should head to the Ferrari Owners’ Club (Kent branch) stand, which is expected to be flaunting a totally original 288GTO alongside a mint Boxer BBi – one of just 42 right-hand-drive models to reach UK roads.
Over at the Aston Martin Owners’ Club display space, visitors will find one of the ten Vanquish S RAF Red Arrows models produced to raise awareness and donations for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
For all things Ford, there’s the RS Owners’ Club, which is celebrating 50 years of the mk1 Escort Twin Cam, while the Capri mk1 Owners’ Club is parading three special models, including a very scarce South African-produced Capri Perana, powered by a five-litre V8 engine sourced from the contemporary Ford Mustang.
The MG Owners’ Club display will include the famous ex-factory MGB that Paddy Hopkirk and Andrew Hedges raced at Le Mans in 1965.
Churchill and Diana
Aside from pristine examples of some of the best-loved heritage models, the London Classic Car Show will exhibit some cars with immense historical relevance, namely Winston Churchill’s pre-war Daimler DB18 Drophead Coupe, used by the PM between 1944 and 1949.
A unique XJ-S Cabriolet specially commissioned for Diana, Princess of Wales, will also be presented by the Jaguar XJS Club. Produced in 1983, this illustrious drop-top Jag comes with a pair of small rear seats for her two young princes, William and Harry.
Event director Bas Bungish commented: “Whether it’s displaying these truly special cars or just sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm with show goers, the presence of these passionate car clubs really adds yet another key dimension to the visitor experience.”
