The Algarve Classic is set to be a must-attend event for fans of classic vehicles later this year, with a host of top marques exhibiting their most iconic vehicles for visitors to enjoy.
Set to run from October 18th to 21st 2012 at the Algarve International Autodrome in Portugal, this will be the first year it has been put on for classic car lovers and is set to attract enthusiasts from around the world.
A highlight of this year’s schedule will undoubtedly be the Stirling Moss Trophy – a race for classic vehicles built before 1961 – as well as the Motor Racing Legends Pre-War Sports Car Series.
Other attractions are set to include the U2TC for under-two-litre Touring Cars and the 1000km for pre-1972 sports car racing event, as well as a host of classic Touring and GT cars for spectators to have an up-close look at and to witness in action.
Carol Spagg of Historic Motor Racing News commented: “There were rumours over the future of this event, but I have been down in the Algarve and seen the optimism of all involved in the project, from circuit owner Paulo Pinheiro himself to marshals and caterers and I’m very sure we will have a very successful race meeting and a very warm welcome from all of them.”
Back in the UK, fans of classic vehicles might like to head along to the upcoming Silverstone Classic, which is taking place at the historic Silverstone circuit – the birthplace of the FIA Formula One World Championship and home to this year’s Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix.
A highlight for visitors keen to see some of the greatest classic vehicles in action this year could be the Jaguar E-type Challenge, which is being put on in 2012 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of this iconic vehicle first being brought into production.
