Already one of the most reliable superminis on the market, the Yaris is getting an upgrade for 2014 and Toyota has unveiled what it has in store for the new release coming this summer.
The car is getting a bit of a redesign, so that the exterior is more aesthetically pleasing and distinctive than its previous models, with a cross-shaped arrangements in its front end with new headlight units. At the rear it has a new bumper, diffuser and light cluster.
It is also having its powertrains improved so that it can deliver better fuel economy, lower its emissions and produces less noise and vibrations.
Its three-cylinder 1.0 litre petrol engine version has been re-engineered so that its thermal efficiency is greatly improved and its carbon emissions are brought below 100g/km.
Of course, those who opt for the Yaris Hybrid will see results that are even kinder to the environment. This has been revised so that its carbon emissions have been reduced from 79g/km to 76g/km.
Toyota has based its new design on feedback from customers, the media and other motorists. Taking what they know has been popular and building on what people believe the vehicle needs more of, the European-based divisions of Toyota’s R&D, design and product planning departments have been working together on this new model.
Speaking about the aim for the new design, product manager in Brussels Alessandro Massimino said: “Yaris already meets the essential requirements of supermini customers in its compactness relative to its roominess, its functional aspects and its innovative equipment, particularly its multimedia system and rear-view camera.
“Our surveys and the very positive response to the hybrid convinced us that we now had to move towards a more assertive style and increase the car’s overall dynamism, both in terms of design and driving pleasure.”
Exact prices and specifications for the Yaris in the UK are set to be released ahead of its release in the summer.
