Fans of vintage cars were in for a treat this weekend (July 20th) as a whole host of these vehicles were out on display at Shelsley Walsh.
The Classic Nostalgia event was hosted by the Midland Automobile Club this weekend, fittingly so at the oldest motor sport venue in the world.
What’s more, Sir Stirling Moss made an appearance at the event as the guest of honour. The former Formula One driver, who was also known for breaking several records and dubbed ‘the greatest driver never to win the world championship’, applauded the event for the choice of venue and the type of people that came down.
Sir Stirling said of the event: “This is a terrific occasion where all sorts of truly rare and magnificent cars can be seen in their full glory and I am thrilled at the reception I have received here from old and younger fans alike and for the opportunity to be reunited with some of the important cars from my racing past.”
One lucky winner of a charity raffle at the event, Catherine Ball, got the opportunity to ride alongside Sir Stirling. She sat in the passenger seat of a Ferrari 250 SWB, which was worth millions of pounds, as the motorsports legend drove it up the hill in front of the crowds.
As part of the event, cars from various decades and of all shapes and sizes competed on the track while against the clock. Meanwhile, a variety of clubs had stylish cars of days gone by on show in the car parks; Morgan and MG were among the clubs in attendance.
People also drove down their own cherished classic automobiles, which helped to create an eclectic display of vintage vehicles within the public car parks.
A total of one hundred cars took part in the Concours de Elegance competition. The overall winner was a man who initially had no intention of entering. Roy Powell drove down to Classic Nostalgia from Teesside in his own Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk111.
