Another day, another even faster Mercedes AMG breaks cover. It seems that the AMG engineers have upped their coffee intake recently and ECUs are getting reflashed and cam timings fettled in a seemingly endless surge for even more grunt behind the potent AMG badge. Still, that’s all good for thumpin’ V8 Merc fans!
So, hot on the heels of the new Merc E63 AMG S Model is this new even faster C, the C63 AMG Edition 507; coming to the UK in July and packing an extra 50bhp and 10Nm of torque over the standard C63 AMG models. You can have it as saloon, estate or coupe, with prices from £66,960 OTR for the saloon, £68,160 for the estate and £68,160 for the coupe.
Power? Well, the clue is in the name – ‘507’ – with this uprated C-Class AMG now making 507hp from its 6.3-litre V8 engine, whereas the standard car, if you can call it that, makes 457hp. If the standard C63 AMG is a Whopper, the 507 is a Double Whopper with spicy cheese!
The extra horsepower and torque bestows an even sharper performance edge upon the Edition 507, with 62mph coming and going in just 4.2 seconds (4.3 seconds for the estate) and with the AMG Drivers Package installed, the top speed is derestricted from 155mph to 174mph.
At around £12,000 richer than the standard C63 AMG, you’d rightly expect some extra goodies with the 507, and these are delivered in the shape of fresh 19-inch AMG Cross-Spoke alloy wheels in a Titanium finish, a high performance composite braking system with jazzy red brake calipers, as well as – and this is probably the best bit – an AMG bonnet with power domes and air outlets, liberated from the even snortier C63 AMG Black Series coupe.
Other 507 dress up bits outside include high gloss black exterior mirrors, radiator grille and front bumper trim, an AMG Sports Stripe in matt graphite grey (boy racers just got a lot faster!) down the side of the car, and for the saloon a meaty AMG boot spoiler.
Inside, the Edition 507 features designo Black Leather as standard, while more adventurous customers can choose between the designo Porcelain Leather with Black Dinamica and contrast stitching, or the designo Black Leather with Black Dinamica, both as generous no cost options. Of course there’s a work of art AMG steering wheel, 507 badging and some additional tasty highlight tits bits to also help separate this special 507 from the boggo C63 AMG.
