New Chevy Camaro power for £35k

Okay, so it might be thirstier than Gazza eating a turbo-vindaloo in the desert, but who doesn’t – circumstances allowing – fancy a bit of big Yank V8 in their lives from time to time? Well, there’s a design-tweaked Chevrolet Camaro coming to the UK in November, and from a smidge over £35,000 you can own one, complete with big V8 motor and a 6-speed manual gearbox. There is an option to get the Camaro with an automatic gearbox, but it’s less powerful by about 25bhp, and well, why would you?

This 2013 Camaro has had a makeover, but you’d be hard-pressed to notice it. This is a good thing however as this is and was one handsome-looking Yank tank.

The new front end features a wider lower grille and a narrower upper grille, while that rather small black plastic hood vent wafts hot air away from the 6.2-litre, 430bhp V8 motor beneath it. Around the back of the Camaro’s substantial rear end we see changes to the boot lid and new horizontal taillights. All of this is said to aid aerodynamics and high speed stability, but by how much it’s hard to gauge. Anyway, these thumping V8s are all about super-torquey getaways and plenty of shake, rumble and growl. And I’m sure the new Camaro does the business here.

Your next motor-out-of-the-movies gets a pretty plush deal inside for your well-sub-£40k, with Chevrolet MyLink as standard that includes a 7-inch touch-screen, rear-view camera and a voice recognition system that, working with the new colour heads-up display, helps the driver keep their eyes on the road rather than the knobs on the dash. Probably a good idea when you’re unleashing this not inconsiderable beast.

Hairdressers with bad attitudes note; the Camaro convertible with a manual transmission is to cost £40,320, and will go on sale alongside the tin-top in the next few months, with deliveries starting in November.
