A huge and rare collection of Peugeots, from classic models to modern creations, came together in the UK for the annual International Peugeot Meeting.
In total, 120 cars came to the event, which followed the theme Best of British, to hold up the strapline of ‘motion and emotion’.
The cars were provided by members of l’Aventure Peugeot, which is the brand’s heritage division. Owners and vehicles came to the event in Southampton from the UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
There was a range of models from across Peugeot’s history, with the oldest on show being a 1922 Peugeot Type 173S. According to the owner, Christian Bottero, the model is unique and its bodywork was made by a coachbuilder in Marseille. He explained that it would be impossible to repair if it got damaged but he still enjoys driving it around because it makes people smile and he does roughly 500 miles per year in it.
Other cars at the event included a 1934 601 Roadster. This was owned by an 80-year-old from Amsterdam called Piet Kostelijk, who explained that there are now only five left in the world of the 109 that were originally built. While the car did not run when he bought it, he explained that he had faith that he could get his ‘dream car’ rolling again. He also brought along his 202 Cabriolet, 302, 304, 404 and 504 Cabriolet.
The director of product for Peugeot and president of l’Aventure Peugeot, Xavier Peugeot, explained how studying the cars of the past is useful for the brand to develop into the future.
He commented: “I like looking backwards but only if we can use it for the future. The 402 Eclipse is a good example. It was very innovative when it was launched. It proved that Peugeot had a vision for the future very early on. […] What I do know is that looking at our heritage can make us more credible and stronger.”
