Sebastien Loeb had a pretty triumphant return to the World Rally Championship (WRC), managing to take the most stage wins at Rallye Monte-Carlo.
He and Daniel Elena were present for the opening round of this season as they joined Citroen Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team and got behind the wheel of a DS 3 WRC.
Loeb managed to claim the 905th fastest stage win of his career in the WRC by the end of the Col de Turini test.
Speaking about the experience of the race, Loeb said: “We enjoyed that! We managed to find the pace and the DS 3 WRC was perfect. When we set off on the first stage, it was as if Daniel and I had never been away! I was very pleasantly surprised by the feeling and the times we set right from the word go.”
“We experienced a lot of good moments. It was a really great experience for Daniel, at home, and for me!”
He did says that the first two legs of the race were particularly challenging but that he and Elena needed to push forward nonetheless as they were only 14th in the running order. He said that the pair had great fun in the DS 3 WRC despite the fact that conditions did not work out well for them and a little mistake cost them considerably.
Another driver that was part of the Citroen team that had a great day was British driver Kris Meeke. He topped the timesheets on the Power Stage and managed to finish slightly ahead of Loeb, taking away three bonus points.
Meeke said that his aim was to score some points during the Power Stage so that he could end the rally on a high. He was pleased to have won a few stages because “it means we clearly have the speed to compete.”
Next, the WRC teams will be heading to Rally Sweden from February 12th to 15th. No doubt there will be plenty of ice and snow that they will have to tackle there.
