Classic motoring enthusiasts will be in with the chance to buy their own historic car this weekend. Historics at Brooklands is set to have its largest and most varied car auction yet.

Classic GlamourOn Saturday August 30th, 161 classic motor cars are set to go under the hammer from roughly 50 different marques and spanning a history of 91 years.

Among the rare cars that are set to be sold are a 1969 De Tomaso Mangusta, which has only had two owners since it was new. Numbers of this type of vehicle are dwindling, having had only a short run to begin with, and it is expected to fetch between £210,000 and £240,000.

Another is the 1972 Ferrari Dino 246GT, which was designed by Pininfarina and has an estimate of £190,000 to £220,000. What’s more, this car is in right-hand drive, making it much easier to use on British roads.

It is not the only Pininfarina car to go up for auction at the weekend though, as it will be joined by a 2+2 Ferrari 330 GT. This 1966 Series II is another rare right-hand drive vehicle and will be going up for bidding with not much more than 43,000 miles on the clock. Its estimate sits between £160,000 and £180,000.

For fans of Porsche, there is a fair number of cars from this marque going under the hammer. These include eight classic Porsche 356 and 911 models in good condition, which makes up a collection worth more than £500,000.

Additionally, a 1962 Porsche 356B Cabriolet is expected to fetch between £90,000 and £98,000. This car was once owned by a member of the Porsche family and is particularly rare as only 200 RHD Cabriolets were built during this model’s run.

What’s more, there is also a 1952 Porsche 356 Pre A Coupe due to be sold for between £105,000 and £115,000. Meanwhile, four 911s in immaculate condition from between 1972 and 1974 are set to be sold, which are led by a rare RHD 1972 2.4 litre 911 S Coupe. Lastly, there is a 1981 Porsche 930 Turbo due to go up for bidding.

There is a theme of performance vehicles at this auction. One of the vehicles of the day is a 1953 OSCA MT4, which competed on the Mille Miglia in the same year and contributed to the six decades of racing history that followed.

Additionally, there is a 1955 Lancia Aurelia B20GT Competition that is due to go under the hammer, which has previously taken part in the Monte Carlo Rally and has only just returned from the 2014 Mille Miglia.

One of the cars with the biggest motorsport history under its belt is a 1917 American La France Type 12 Two-Seat Tourer. The machine was made by a fire engine company and has proved popular on a range of endurance rallies, including Peking to Paris. It comes with a straight-six 14,500cc engine, has a three speed gearbox and a chain to drive the rear wheels.
