Anyone who missed this summer’s Goodwood Festival of Speed had the chance to get their fill of outrageous automobiles at the recent Beaulieu Supercar Weekend.
Held on the first weekend of August (4-5th), it was the biggest and best Beaulieu Supercar Weekend yet, with more than 950 supercars and almost 15,000 people crammed into the grounds of the National Motor Museum. The event presented the chance to get up close to some of the world’s greatest and most exclusive cars, as well as witness some action-packed demonstration runs and amazing displays.
Just a handful of the magnificent motors put through their paces over the weekend included the new TVR Griffith, the latest Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari 16M Scuderia, Bowler Bulldog, Porsche GTS, Alfa Romeo 4C, Audi R8, classic Ferrari Dino and TVR 400SE. Also, for the first time at the event, a grandstand view of the action was televised on a big screen in the Events Arena, interspersed with interviews with drivers.
Another new feature for 2018 was Supercar Evolution. This placed supercars of the past alongside their modern-day counterparts for brands including Porsche, BMW, Jaguar and Ford. This meant visitors could see a 1950s Mercedes-Benz 300SL sitting beside a modern-day SLS AMG with its ‘gullwing’ doors, while Aston Martin was represented by its one-time flagship model, the rare One-77, as well as the classic DB5 and DB6, racing-inspired Vantage GT12 and the brand new Vantage.
Elsewhere at the show, some of the rarest and most valuable Ferraris gathered on the lawns of Palace House, including the 275 of the 1960s, F40 of the 1980s and two LaFerrari hypercars. It wasn’t all visual at the show; the event was also a feast for the ears with the supercar sound-off which involved the Nissan GT-R, Aston Martin GT12, Audi R8, Maserati MC Stradale and Ford Mustang all making as much racket as possible.
No car show is complete without a gathering of club stands, as such there was representation from the TVR Car Club, the Lotus Drivers’ Club, the Porsche Club of Great Britain, and the Ferrari Owners’ Club of Great Britain stand amongst others.
