We’re just about getting over our fun at the Geneva Motor Show last month, but we have to move on because this coming week (25th April) sees the start of the Beijing Motor Show 2016. The show is open to the public from 29th April to 4th May – the first couple of days are press and trade only – and it will be a car enthusiast’s dream, featuring passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
If you work in the industry it’s an excellent scouting exercise to get some information on new models and such… but it’s also really fun because there’s loads of cool cars. We’ve had a look around at the teasers and tidbits of information that are going around about what people can expect to see at the show and come up with the top five that we’re most excited about.

Lexus IS
For years everyone has been getting het up about the Lexus NX 300h and its crossover credentials. But, there’s a new kid in town with the redesigned IS model and it’s making its official debut at the motor show in China.
Autoexpress has driven one and said that it’s a more stylish and well-built executive saloon than any of its German counterparts, which is a strong statement in support of the Japanese manufacturer and its latest model.
It isn’t just your standard saloon, which is perhaps what sets it apart, as Lexus refers to its as a luxury sport offering in the class.
A choice of two engines comes with this smart-looking car, an efficient IS 300h hybrid and an IS 200t, which is a turbocharged petrol unit. Out of the two, we’ve got our eyes on the hybrid engine, its 67mpg make it a clear choice for city types.
Porsche 718 Cayman
There’s only a whiff of a doodle when it comes to pictures for the 718 Cayman, which completes the line-up of the series by joining the 718 Boxster model.
Word on the street is that the 718 Boxster is winning over diehard 911 fans all over the place, so we’re excited to see what it’s hard top sibling looks like in the flesh.
The series is a continuation of the success of the four-cylinder flat concept engine that has proved successful for the manufacturer when it comes to motorsports.
Really the only other thing that we can say for certain is that the Cayman is going to be a two-door model as Porsche has been really good at keeping its cards firmly pressed to its chest.
It’s sheer intrigue that sees this one make our top five list, the people at Porsche are probably really good at poker.
Infiniti QX Sport
Unlike the Porsche 718 Cayman, we’ve seen at least a glimpse of the exciting new SUV concept from Infiniti.
So far though, most of the details have been about the car’s appearance and design, which the manufacturer is branding with the title Powerful Elegance.
In terms of its looks, we believe that its lines see it taking on the style of the Q60 Concept, thanks to its floating A-pillars and extra-wide wheel arches.
The Infiniti QX Sport is aiming to be the next-generation of mid-size premium SUVs, so we’re expecting good things from its performance and efficiency levels.
Volkswagen Phideon
Although this model was actually released at the Geneva Motor Show, it’s only going to be released on the Chinese market, so we expect for there to be a lot of fuss over this one in Beijing.
If it passed you by in Geneva, you need to know that it’s a high-end saloon, which should go down well in the premium market in China. It’s going to be placed above the Passat and the Magotan – another car available-only in the Chinese market.
However, the Phideon is a charismatic-looking car and we’re expecting to see many of its flourishes coursing through the design of VW’s future saloon offerings. In terms of engines, you’re looking at TSI units that place the emphasis on efficiency thanks to being turbocharged and petrol-based.
Audi TT RS sportscar
It seems that the German manufacturer is preparing to release a new model to its much-celebrated RS line, this time it’ll be the TT RS – a stunning sportscar for the luxury market.
Although we aren’t certain that we’re going to see this exciting model at the show, it’s set for release later this year, so we can’t help but cross our fingers in hope.
No pictures, other than spy shots at the moment, but one thing that we do know for certain is that it’s going to have a five-cylinder turbocharged engine – so that’s something we can all look forward to.
