The Volvo XC90 has once again proven its reputation as one of the safest vehicles on the road, earning the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) 2023 Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) award. The award recognises the XC90’s exceptional safety features and technologies, which have been put to the test through IIHS’s rigorous safety evaluation program.

To qualify for the TSP+ award, the IIHS has strengthened its criteria to demand better side crash protection, improved pedestrian crash prevention systems, and the elimination of subpar headlights from the field of qualifying vehicles. The updated side crash test involves 82 percent more energy, and vehicles must now earn an acceptable or good rating to qualify for TSP, while a good rating is required for TSP+.

As part of Volvo Cars’ mission to ensure that no one should be seriously injured or killed in a new Volvo car, safety has always been a top priority. “The Volvo XC90 continues to prove, year after year, that it is among the safest vehicles on the road,” said Åsa Haglund, head of Volvo Cars Safety Centre.

Both mild hybrid (XC90) and plug-in hybrid (XC90 Recharge) versions of the XC90 earned the TSP+ award. The XC90 Recharge also offers up to 73 kilometres (WLTP) or 35 miles (EPA) of all-electric driving in Pure mode, making it not just safe, but also eco-friendly.

Volvo Cars have also made sustainability a priority, announcing its plans to sell only fully electric vehicles by 2030 and aiming to become carbon neutral by 2040. The XC90 Recharge is just one example of Volvo’s commitment to both safety and sustainability.

It’s important to note that vehicle specifications and customer offers may vary from country to country. For more information on the XC90 and its features, visit the Volvo Cars website.

In conclusion, the Volvo XC90 continues to prove its excellence in safety year after year, and the 2023 TSP+ award from the IIHS is a testament to that. With its innovative safety technologies and commitment to sustainability, the XC90 is not just a top-performing luxury SUV, but also a responsible and eco-friendly choice for consumers.
