Now that Spring has arrived, we are celebrating the season of the hybrid.

Hybrids have been the talk of the motoring industry for a while now but 2017 has seen hybrid cars take a massive leap into the light.

Not only are they more environmentally friendly, they also have their financial benefits, as well as providing unexpected performance improvements to a growing segment of new cars.

For those of you who aren’t quite sure of this whole hybrid thing, a hybrid car uses two or more engines, usually in the form of an electric motor and a conventional petrol or diesel combustion engine working together for better efficiency.

What is a hybrid?

When you think of a hybrid, a majority of people would think about a small sized Japanese saloon with a lack of style (the Toyota Prius maybe?)

However, the perception of hybrids is changing due to the ‘holy trinity’ as they are now called; the Porsche 918, McLaren P1 and LaFerrari.

Also, as the Directors of AAM (American Axle & Manufacturing) discovered, driving an executive hybrid model is actually very cost effective, especially when it comes to company car tax.

Hybrids for company car drivers.

Although the costs of research, development and production of hybrid vehicles are typically more expensive than their conventional counterparts, the government has created several tax credit programs and incentives to cover these costs such as low car tax, discounts on vehicle registration and extra income rebates.

For a company car this can allow companies to still buy executive cars such as BMW, Mercedes or Range Rover at a more affordable monthly price.

The tax you pay on using a company car is based on the vehicle’s P11D value and its BIK tax band. Some hybrids offer low CO2 emissions which, combined with a low P11D value, can offer much reduced company car tax compared with petrol or diesel rivals.

£40,000-£50,000 cars are suddenly available with low tax due to their hybrid engines.

Reduced fuel costs is another benefit to a company.

For someone with a long daily commute a hybrid can save a sizeable chunk out of the monthly fuel costs due to the hybrid efficiencies.

They are also very effective in bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic, as the battery power alone can be sufficient.

So the hybrid power and efficiency has caught your attention but what if you also want style? Worry not!

There exists an entire class of high performance hybrid cars in the luxury sector.

Companies ranging from BMW, to Lexus, to Porsche all build battery-assisted vehicles these days that deliver exceptional speed thanks to their hybrid designs.

If the idea of a hybrid has caught your attention, our friends and sponsors,  BestCarFinder can help in sourcing the most cost-effective executive cars for your company. Check out their best executive hybrids picks:
