A spokesperson for Porsche said: “Rarely has a rear wing been so perfectly integrated into a car’s overall aesthetic as in the 959. It was based upon the 911 – but faster and more powerful.”Manufactured from 1986 to 1993, the twin-turbocharged 959 was the world’s fastest street legal production car boasting a top speed of 195mph.During its production run it was hailed as the most technologically advanced road-going sports car ever built – and a forerunner of all future supercars.Number 3Described as an icon by Norbert Singer, third place was handed to the Porsche 911 RS 2.7.Introduced in 1972 at the Paris Motor Show, its trademark was its rear spoiler, known as the ducktail.Norbert said: “It kick started something of a revolution back then with the discovery of down force for road cars.”These particular models, valued by collectors, were considered by many to be the greatest 911s of all time.The RS was built so that Porsche could enter racing formulae that demanded a certain minimum number of production cars were made.Compared to the standard 911S, the Carrera 2.7 RS had a larger engine (2687cc), a more stiffened suspension, a ducktail rear spoiler, bigger brakes, wider rear wheels and of course, wider rear wings. Capable of reaching speeds up to 245km/h, this powerful model could do 0-60mph in just 5.8 seconds.Number 2The spoiler of the Porsche Panamera Turbo claimed second place – its spoiler deploys at 130km/h providing excellent balance at maximum speed.A spokesperson for Porsche said: “This generates an additional boost and lets the driver feel every single one of the Panamera’s 550 horsepower at the same time.”Practical and performance effective, the Panamera Turbo has a V8 engine that delivers a 550 horsepower.Active aero-dynamics are once again a great feature of this car that has a recommended retail price of $140,783 (£113,075) on the Porsche website.Number 1The renowned Porsche 935 Moby Dick grabbed number one spot in the rankings with its expansive, yet lightweight, rear wing.Porsche’s chief racing team introduced the Moby Dick in 1976 – and Norbert Singer pioneered the build himself with the purpose of achieving higher speeds at Le Mans.The unique and advanced shape of the Porsche 935 allowed it to reach up to 227mph and it was nicknamed Moby Dick for its colossal size and overhangs.Norbert, 77, said: “It’s based on the 911, even though it isn’t instantly recognisable. The wing was extremely lightweight. It was nicknamed Moby Dick because it was very wide and was originally painted white – hence the name Moby Dick, the white whale.”Racing from 0-60mph in a mere 2.6 seconds, the outer shape of the Moby Dick was dictated by aero-dynamics and the rear wings were made from fibreglass.To see more Porsche ‘Top 5’ videos visit: www.youtube.com/porsche"},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
