Making its world debut at the forthcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, the new 570S Spider is bound to turn heads with its appealing and distinctive lines.

Available alongside the Coupe and GT, the car is being hand-assembled in Woking, Surrey and could be regarded as one of the most affordable Spiders the automaker has even made, with prices starting at £164,750.

For those sunny days, the retractable hardtop makes use of the same tech used on the McLaren 650S and 675LT Spiders and is made of lightweight composite panels to ensure swift performance. Designers have had to slightly alter the design of the car and introduce a rear spoiler that is 12mm higher than on the coupe model to account for the difference in lift.

Under the hood, the car has a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged McLaren V8 engine with a seven-speed transmission. Drivers can expect to do 0 to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and a maximum speed of 204 mph, although this lowers to 196 mph with the top down.

“This is a convertible without compromise; its mid-engined layout and carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis guarantee the same thrilling dynamic performance and exceptional driver involvement enjoyed in a 570S Coupe, but with the added attraction of a retractable hard-top that delivers the extra exhilaration of roof-down motoring.”

Buyers can pick from a total of 20 different paint colours, including three specific to the launch of the Spider – Curacao Blue, Vega Blue and Sicilian Yellow.
