Lambo has ripped the roof off of its ludicrous Aventador S and the resulting car has just been revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
For anyone who liked the original Aventador S, Lamborghini has been sure to keep changes to the absolutely essential. As such, the car looks very much the same from the front. It’s only when you get around the back that the drop-top really comes into play.
Because the removable roof requires some restyling, there’s a new carbon fibre engine cover with transparent sections to let everyone know you have a raging V12 and you’re not afraid to use it. The rear also includes an active spoiler that adjusts its position according to speed and drive mode.
But is it fast? It’s a Lambo isn’t it? Of course it is!
Aside from the roof, everything else about the Aventador S Roadster is the same as the coupe.
That includes the roaring 730bhp naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine, as well as the same active suspension and the four-wheel-steer system.
Attaching an electronically foldable soft-top has added 50kg to the kerb weight of the Aventador S. That’s like sticking two dalmatians in the boot and it’s done barely anything to stunt the car’s thunderous performance.
It can complete a 0-62mph sprint in three seconds dead, which is a tenth of a second slower than its fixed roof counterpart, while top speed remains unhindered at 217mph.
Prices for the drop-top Aventador will start from £251,462 when orders open before the end of the year. Those with that kind of moolah could have one on their driveway in the first few months of 2018.
