You may not have heard of Keating Supercars, but the company is likely to gain a much higher profile over the next year or so as it builds up to the launch of its 2,000bhp supercar, the Keating Berus, in 2017 – and it’s British.

In fact, Keating Supercars (formerly known as Barabus Sportscars Ltd) is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this month after making a minor splash on the scene in July 2006 when they gave the world the TKR, a turbo-charged 7-litre V8 with a claimed acceleration of 0-60 in just 2 seconds.

The Keating Berus, named after a venomous snake called Vipera Berus, is set to make its public debut in April 2017 at the Monaco Top Marques Show.  There will be two versions of the Berus and the V8 version will have an impressive top speed of 230mph – and a reputed 0-60mph in just 2.4 seconds.

Intriguingly, the other version of the Berus will be an electric vehicle with over 1,000ft/lb of torque and an impressive (up to) 402bhp…

Styling of the car, according to the company, is that of a snake’s fangs, fancy marketing blurb maybe, but you can certainly see where they are coming from.

Keating Supercars, founded by Anthony Keating, have had a rocky ride from the press in the recent past, where the advance publicity of the company’s Chevrolet V8 design-based 340mph Bolt garnered a sceptical response from some quarters, with accusations of wildly inflated figures to grab attention from the press. I guess time will tell if the Keating Berus is the car that cried wolf or the real deal.

The Berus will be designed, conceived and constructed in Bolton as the company has close links with the University of Bolton, and we look forward to further information being released over the coming months.

Should you want to see the Berus in the flesh, you can visit the University of Bolton’s Centre for Advanced Performance Engineering, where you will be able to see the only currently existing version of the Berus in public – sadly, this is only a half-scale model, but there should not be too long to wait for the real thing.
