One of the most eagerly-anticipated announcements of the last decade has finally come to fruition, with 2016 set to be the year that the new Honda NSX will come into full production.
Details of the new model have been unveiled by automotive magazine Auto Express, with the publication quick to point out not just the impressive performance, beauty and engineering of this much-anticipated supercar, but also the manufacturer’s commitment to greener driving.
The 2016 Honda NSX will build on the rich heritage of its predecessors, with the model originally designed and tested by Formula One legend Ayrton Senna. First coming into production in 1989, the model was discontinued in 2005 – but it will soon be back.
Car lovers across the globe are now eagerly awaiting this new release and the latest iteration of this iconic supercar is unlikely to disappoint.
Auto Express reveals the new NSX will have a striking profile reminiscent of a cross between the Audi R8 and McLaren 650S, with the new model pushing the boundaries of the manufacturer’s previously conservative styling.
The 2016 NSX is expected to be a breath of fresh air for the marque, with every element of its exterior chassis designed to maximise performance and speed.
Under the hood, the design revelations are equally as striking, with the incorporation of a new hybrid powertrain serving to deliver not just blistering acceleration and speed, but also a significant improvement in sustainability against the model’s illustrious predecessors.
A longitudinally mounted direct-injection V6 petrol engine is the main powerhouse of the new NSX, but this has been coupled with a single electric motor driving the rear axle and two further electric motors on the front wheels to more effectively manage torque and improve handling and responsiveness for the driver.
This innovative configuration has been named Honda’s Sport Hybrid all-wheel-drive system, and works with the manufacturer’s Agile Handling Assist technology to promote enhanced dynamic stability.
Chief engineer and global project leader for the NSX development team Ted Klaus told Auto Express: “We’ve developed a human-centered supercar that responds to the will of the driver and builds upon the NSX heritage.”
Expect the coming months to be filled with talk of the impending release of this impressive new supercar, with petrol heads around the world eager to see this iconic racer in all its glory.
First deliveries of the new NSX in both the US and Europe are expected to be witnessed by spring 2016, with a price tag in the region of £100,000 for those lucky enough to get their hands on one.
