Is this the best Porsche 911 model?

Porsche 996 Turbo

Considered the world’s best car back when it was first unveiled, the Porsche 996 Turbo still impresses with its stylish looks, performance and handling. A fantastic all round sports car, this little beauty can go from 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds and on a long straight will carry you along at up to 190mph. It has four-wheel drive and enough room for all the family, making it a practical choice that still offers a lot of fun and excitement whether you are cruising along or taking it out for a spin.

The Turbo ran from 2000 through to 2005 as a coupe, cabriolet and then the Turbo S was introduced with a whole heap of upgrades. Exterior styling is smooth and unique with headlights that have quite a marmite effect – you either think the unusual design is a positive change from the norm, or wish they were classic and circular in shape.

As well as being fun to drive, the price of these ‘classic’ Porsche 911s won’t put you off, as they are surprisingly affordable both to buy and run.

Once you take a seat you’ll find it is rather comfortable and there is full leather trim on later Turbo S models. This car was popular from the get go and whilst it isn’t the most collectible Porsche around it can still go toe to toe with many of the big stars of the supercar world and leave them in the dust.

Among the modifications found on the 911 Turbo are flared sills and a tail spoiler; this activates when you hit 75mph, a nifty little feature as far as we’re concerned. Porsche also provide an optional five-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox that makes traffic even more fun than when using the usual manual 6-speed gearbox.
