Audi has officially launched its R8 Spyder V10 plus.
Audi has unveiled its brand new convertible, the Audi R8 Spyder V10 plus – and it’s billed as the fastest series-production convertible model ever produced by the brand.
The sleek, chic look of the car is showcased in the publicity photos and it’s definitely an eye-catching vehicle with its shiny, emerald green facade.
We know you’re all interested in what’s under the dazzling bonnet though – and the Spyder doesn’t disappoint. It boasts a mid-mounted 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine powering a quattro permanent all-wheel drive.
It’s 25kg lighter than the standard model thanks to top-of-the-range carbon fibre-reinforced plastics and aluminium components, which helps it reach a top speed of 328 kmph and go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds.
If you’re wondering about the ‘plus’, it refers to the 69 brake horse power boost when compared to the R8 V10, making it the most powerful engine ever fitted to an Audi road car.
Other key features include trapezoidal exhausts, a carbon fibre lip spoiler, bucket seats as standard and ceramic brakes.
Anyone concerned about the environment may also be pleased to know that the R8 Spyder V10 plus has a cylinder on demand system that disconnects the engine from the drive when the vehicle is coasting at 55 km/h or above, meaning it can cruise along with minimal fuel consumption.
As for colours, you can order that stunning Wizard of Oz-like green if you like it, but Audi is also offering its new release in a range of other gloss and matte paint schemes.
Managing director of Audi Sport GmbH Stephan Winkelmann said: “The Audi R8 Spyder V10 plus completes the R8 model line. It benefits from our many years of experience in motorsport and combines breathtaking dynamics with the emotion of an open-top sports car.”
You can order the Audi R8 Spyder V10 plus now for late summer 2017 delivery – that’s assuming you’ve got a spare £147,470 to part with, obviously.
The unveiling comes after it was revealed that the new Audi A8 saloon is to feature in the forthcoming movie Spider-Man: Homecoming when it premieres on June 28th, ahead of the car’s official launch on July 11th. All you need to do is head to the cinema if you fancy a sneak preview of the design!
