Lamborghini has announced the launch of a new member of its Aventador range that could set pulses racing for fans of high-performance cars with unique style.
The new topless Aventador LP700-4 Roadster is certainly one for the pin-up pages, with its cool looks definitely helping it to stand out from the crowd.
Weighing just 6kg, the forged composite roof panels are removed manually by the driver and stored in the front luggage compartment when they want to feel the open air and wind in their face while out and about.
It is a less complicated approach to delivering a convertible than many other super cars presently on the market – such as the Ferrari 599 Roadster or Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster – which utilise a system of hydraulics to automatically fold away the roof.
While this means the Lamborghini is slightly behind on the technology, there is method to the madness, as the weight saved by simply using removable panels makes a difference for performance.
Delivering stunning performance is one of the Aventador Roadster’s party pieces, with acceleration from zero to 62 mph in just three seconds and a top speed of 217 mph.
The vehicle’s 6.5-litre V12 engine delivers an impressive 700 bhp at 8,250 rpm and top torque of 690 Nm at 5,500 rpm.
With all this power comes the need for excellent safety and this is another area where the Aventador excels. Its cockpit is fitted with a front duel stage driver airbag and front adaptive passenger airbag, as well as head-thorax airbags in both seats and driver knee airbags for added protection.
In addition, the Aventador’s brakes are second to none, featuring a dual hydraulic circuit brake system with added vacuum brake booster.
Set to cost €300,000 (£239,745) excluding taxes, the new roadster is certain to go down well with fans of the Lamborghini style, both old and new.
