With over 32.5 million views on YouTube, this supercar-super-shootout between a Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Aventador, McLaren MP4-12C and Lexus LFA is one of the most viewed car videos ever. And, as you’ll soon see for yourself, it’s a tidy bit of video kit, with each of these supercars going head-to-head in probably the truest test of all out performance – the quarter-mile drag race. These are all rapid motors and they all sound stunning ripping up the quarter-mile strip, but perhaps ultimate honours for pure sexy sound here must go to the howling Lexus LFA V10. It’s how F1 cars used to sound!

Of course, I won’t reveal the outcome of the drag-race-that-dreams-are-made-off, but it’s kind of clear right from the off that the future of very fast cars will almost certainly need a turbocharger; not only for the biggest speeds, but also for the best attempts at some kind of fuel economy. Although, with four turbos and sixteen cylinders, the beastly Veyron drinks like the biggest, thirstiest fish in the sea!

So, what makes a car video go viral? Well, there are the obvious ingredients; great cars, good camera angles and plenty of growling and howling engines, but it will also need a boost from the YouTube viewers themselves. The more people that view and comment on a video, the more YouTube will recognise this and the more it will recommend this video to other viewers searching on similar subjects. This video clearly ticks all the boxes.

But, there is one car video with more views than this one; an incredible 49.7 million. The only problems is, well, it’s a bit naff compared to our supercar shootout, although pleasantly tyre smoky. But, here it is anyway, and you can make your own mind up.

Happy viral viewing!
