The historical track, where the greats have raced, offered 1.64 miles of testing tarmac, challenging the drivers from start to finish.Immediate pressure was thrown at the drivers at the first corner named ‘Copse Corner,’ providing opportunities to over-take and cement a forward position whilst elsewhere on the track the lengthy straights offered side by side action.Over 30,000 visitors descended upon the event at Silverstone, reinforcing the reputation of the British Touring Car Championship as one of the largest motor racing shows across the UK.Jason Plato secured a win in the first race in his MG KX Momentum Racing MG6, only pinching the lead after Jackson’s Redstone Racing Ford Focus cruelly retired from first position with just a few laps to go. However, the tables turned in race 2 where Warwickshire’s Jackson then won, jumping ahead to first place after Plato ironically this time retired with minimal laps left. It wasn’t all fun and games in race 2 as Matt Neal suffered when his car spectacularly caught fire, luckily the only damage being to the car.During race 3, Neal, the reigning Champion again retired, this time after being forced off the track into a barrier leaving the lead open for Plato who snatched the win ahead of Jackson and Shedden.An excited Jason Plato declared, ‘Despite the retirement in race two this is still one of the best days in my BTCC career,’ adding, ‘I really believe we’ve got the Honda boys worried.’ Only the final round will see if the Honda boys really are put off by the events at Silverstone, however this has definitely put a spanner in the works.The leader board, as a result of the antics at Silverstone, leaves Shedden still in front leading the table by 15 points above Plato who has moved past Neal into second overall. Neal is 31 behind Shedden. The final round of the British Touring Car Championship will see more head to head action take place at Brands Hatch on the 20th October where the ultimate champion will be crowned!"},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
The British Touring Car Championship – Penultimate Round at Silverstone
https://smart-motoring.com/sports-performance-prestige-cars/the-british-touring-car-championship-penultimate-round-at-silverstone/#breadcrumbitem"}]}]
