The latest exciting exhibit has been revealed for the upcoming Regent Street Motor Show, with motoring enthusiasts looking forward to seeing a very special record breaking machine.

Originally built in Britain, the Drayson Racing Technologies Lola B12 69/EV Le Mans prototype will be on display as part of the Michelin stand at the free-to-view motoring show.

Drayson Record Breaking Electric Car Feature

Haven’t heard of it? Well, the car has set four different World Speed Records since it was created. The reason it probably hasn’t sprung to your attention, is the fact that the vehicle is completely powered by electric.

Earlier in October, the innovative model took to Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire to try and make it into the record books.

After tackling a flying mile at an average speed of 205.139 mph, the car broke its own record – previously set in June 2013 – by over one mph. Furthermore, the machine achieved a similar feat over a distance of one kilometre, achieving a speed of 333.271 kph. The milestones were world beating in the sub-999kg vehicle category.

Elsewhere, the astonishing vehicle was able to break two other global records, with the first coming in the form of the fastest acceleration for an EV car. The model took just 9.742 seconds to travel a quarter of a mile from a standing start, proving how far electric vehicle development has come in recent years.

The second of these additional achievements saw the Drayson prototype become the fastest British-made car ever driven. That’s not just in its own class either, that is over the range of all vehicles that have been created in this country.

Development was conducted under the designs first dreamt up by former science minister and amateur racing driver Lord Paul Drayson.

According to Lord Drayson, the designers had to use a tyre that provided both grip and traction when pulling off the line in their pursuit of world record breaking speeds. To achieve this, Michelin tyres were used – more specifically, the manufacturers LMP1 race tyres which were developed for the Le Mans circuit.

In fact, Michelin will be displaying these tyres at the Regent Street event, alongside its new advanced treaded 18inch race tyre which it has created for the FIA Formula E Championship for electric-powered single seat vehicles which will begin in 2014.

Malcom Scovell, commercial director for Michelin Tyre Plc. UK and Ireland, said: “Whether it’s developing tyres for Britain’s world record breaking electric car, the electric race cars of tomorrow as for Formula E or zero emission city cars, Michelin is at the forefront of tyre technology for a cleaner, sustainable and exciting future.”

Visitors to the motoring event, which has been known to attract crowds of up to 250,000 visitors on the day, will also be treated to a number of other cars in a variety of styles and ranges.
