Attendees are presently flocking to the New York International Auto Show to see some of the finest performance, luxury and prestige vehicles of 2012.
Opening today (April 5th) for press and VIP guests, the event will launch to the public tomorrow and is set to run until April 15th, with an array of delights on offer for performance and luxury vehicle enthusiasts.
Anticipation of the event has been high over recent months, with many of the biggest names in the automotive sector taking the opportunity to showcase their new designs for 2012 at the show.
One of the most talked about debuts of this year's show is undoubtedly the new 2013 Dodge Viper SRT, with its stunning looks and extreme performance creating a powerful package designed to win the hearts of all true petrolheads.
The vehicle is a monster of a car, with its sleek lines and cool looks belying the outrageous performance of the model's 8.4-litre V10 engine, delivering 640 bhp and 600 lb-ft of torque to ensure owners will have a whale of a time behind the wheel.
Meanwhile, not to be outdone, Jaguar has announced in the run-up to the show's opening that its new C-X16 concept will be named the F-Type and it will aim to capture the imagination of sports car lovers when it is unveiled in its full-production form later this year.
Adrian Hallmark, global brand director of Jaguar Cars, commented: "The core appeal of Jaguar's cars is their sporting heart and that heart will beat stronger than ever before in the F-Type.
"Its development is a vivid representation of the confidence and ambition of the Jaguar brand and the desire amongst our engineers and design team to produce a world-leader in a market segment that we have been absent from for too long."
Getting back to this year's Auto Show action, luxury and performance vehicle manufacturer Fisker has unveiled its new Atlantic prototype for the first time at this year's event.
It is a new take on the hybrid design, with the vehicle featuring a full petrol engine for high-end performance, as well as a powerful second-generation electric powertrain, ensuring drivers will not suffer from 'range anxiety' – as they might in a full-electric car – when taking to the roads in this stylish and ecologically-friendly vehicle.
"We are exceptionally proud of the Atlantic design prototype and believe we have created another groundbreaking car that looks and will drive like nothing else on the road in this class," commented Henrik Fisker, co-founder, executive chairman and design director of Fisker Automotive.
Meanwhile, Land Rover is to offer a glimpse into its past glories and what the future holds for the brand at this year's Auto Show, as the company celebrates a quarter of a century operating in the US.
To mark the occasion, the manufacturer has developed a new Defender DC100 expedition model, which is being showcased for the first time at this year's Auto Show.
Kim McCullough, brand vice president for Land Rover North America, stated: "With the renewed focus, enthusiasm and energy that the company holds for the brand, I have no doubt the next 25 years will be as strong as the last."
All now appears to be in place for the public launch of one of the most hotly anticipated automotive events of 2012 and it now remains to be seen which vehicles will wow the judges of the World Car of the Year Awards at the 2012 Auto Show and whether they can top last year's titleholders.
The Aston Martin Rapide was named the 2011 design award winner, while the Ferrari NA 458 Italia was crowned the best performance vehicle of last year.
