Sports car manufacturer Alfa Romeo has announced it is offering buyers of its Giulietta model the chance to improve the handling and responsiveness of their vehicle by having the marque's new TCT – Twin Clutch Transmission – system installed.
A semi-automatic transmission system, TCT provides a range of benefits, offering a balance between high performance, fuel efficiency and lower emissions in comparison to a standard manual transmission, resulting in an all-round sportier and greener vehicle.
Available at the Lusso or Veloce trim levels for the Giulietta, TCT features full-automatic and sequential gearbox modes, meaning drivers can set up their vehicle to complement their own driving preferences.
Basically, the TCT systems works by having two gearboxes working in parallel – one for even gears and one for odd – meaning the engagement of the next gear in the sequence can begin while the previous action to change up or down gears is still being carried out.
The manufacturer claims this action results in smoother and faster gear changes, providing a more comfortable driving experience and helping to minimise fuel consumption.
Available in four trim levels overall – Turismo, Lusso, Veloce and Cloverleaf – each offers a different package of technologies to buyers, but all come with a three-year / 30,000 mile warranty, zero per cent APR finance and an eight-year anti-perforation cover policy for the bodywork of the vehicle.
It also comes with a range of engine options, including the 1.4 Turbo MultiAir 170 bhp model which was named International Best New Engine of the Year in the International Engine of the Year competition 2010.
Other awards which the Giulietta has received since its launch include a prestigious five-star EuroNCAP safety rating, which came about through more than 15,000 hours of virtual testing, 100 crash tests and more than 100 tests on the car's individual components and equipment.
