Porsche has unveiled its new concept, the Panamera Sport Turismo, at the Paris Motor Show, with the aim of highlighting a new direction for the performance vehicle manufacturer in the future.
While the company will continue to pride itself on delivering some of the most luxury and high-performance motors in the world, the new Panamera Sport Turismo also has one eye on greater sustainability.
Featuring Porsche’s new unique hybrid drive system, the vehicle will be able to maintain speeds of up to 130 mph over a 30-mile distance when running solely on its in-car battery.
Furthermore, the Panamera Sport Turismo can be fully recharged while its engine is still running in just 2.5 hours.
A three-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine works alongside the electric motor in the model to produce a combined 416 bhp, enabling the car to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in under six seconds.
This is not the party piece of the Panamera Sport Turismo however, as this excellent performance is coupled with extremely low emissions of 82g/km of CO2 and fuel consumption of just 3.5 litres per 100 miles.
However, for now the model remains purely a concept, with the design showcasing the advances the company continues to make in the development of green vehicles.
Meanwhile, Jaguar’s new F-Type was also unveiled at this year’s Paris Motor Show, with the vehicle being hailed as the company’s triumphant return to the two-seater sportscar category.
The vehicle is being talked about as the successor to the iconic E-Type and indeed, it is the first time Jaguar has developed a two-seat vehicle in 50 years.
Featuring the latest technologies and with blistering performance – its supercharged five-litre V8 engine delivers 495 bhp – the new F-Type is set to go into full production in the new year.
Mike Cross, chief engineer for vehicle integrity at Jaguar, commented: “Fundamentally, a great sports car is one you’ll look forward to driving because it’s fun and the F-Type definitely delivers on that score.”
