Chevrolet has announced it is to create a limited edition Hot Wheels Camaro model, based on the popular children's toy.

"Millions of us grew up playing with Hot Wheels," said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. "Offering a special production model of the Camaro Hot Wheels is an opportunity to bring those memories to life, for kids of all ages."

Set to be placed into production during the first quarter of next year, the Hot Wheels-inspired model will feature many of the unique design elements of the iconic toy car, including black 20-inch alloy wheels, a ZL1 rear spoiler, ZL1 front grille, fender "flame" decals and two-tone matte hood graphics.

Based on the manufacturer's V8 coupe model, the Hot Wheels Camaro will be debuted at the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas next year and with just a handful of vehicles to be manufactured, the model promises to be a hot item for fans of both performance cars and the iconic toy range.

Moreover, buyers will not only be purchasing a stylish and unique vehicle, its performance will be staggering, with Chevrolet set to supercharge the Camaro's powertrain to deliver 432 horsepower and 569 Nm of torque.

"It's been nearly 20 years since I started designing cars for Hot Wheels and I have yet to drive one home," said Felix Holst, vice president of creative for the Mattel Wheels Division. "Personally, I can't wait to open the doors and see the Hot Wheels Camaro sitting in the garage."

The news follows a recent announcement by the performance vehicle manufacturer of a significant upturn in sales for the first half of 2012, as buyers become more attracted to the company's extensive range of models.

Indeed, the firm reported a 10.9 per cent rise in European sales during the first six months of the year in comparison to the same time in 2011, with Chevrolet securing its best ever market share for the period of 1.43 per cent.
