The all-new Fisker Atlantic design prototype has been unveiled for the first time to sports and luxury vehicle enthusiasts at the New York Auto Show this month.

Utilising the latest in electric vehicle engines, the Atlantic is to be a plug-in series hybrid, featuring both a petrol engine for high-end torque and performance, and coupled with an electric motor to deliver low-end economy and immediate responsiveness.

"We are exceptionally proud of the Atlantic design prototype and believe we have created another groundbreaking car that looks and will drive like nothing else on the road in this class," commented Henrik Fisker, co-founder, executive chairman and design director of Fisker Automotive.

The company announced a change in management earlier this year, with Tom LaSorda taking over the position of chief executive officer and chairman of the board.

He took over the reins from Mr Fisker at the end of February and noted at the time that despite the change, the vehicle manufacturer will continue to hold its design ethos of innovation and excellent driveability, with a less-is-more approach to driver aids.
