Performance vehicle specialist Corvette is set to unveil its new seventh-generation model in January 2013 and has offered a number of teasers about its make-up.
The manufacturer has stated that just two items are to be featured on the new model unchanged from the previous version of this iconic sports car, with the C7 to build on the company's ethos of power and style.
For now, one of the few details Corvette has revealed is that the model will feature the manufacturer's new crossed flags logo, which itself has undergone a significant overhaul for 2013.
Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design, commented: "The new Crossed Flags design reflects the character of the next Corvette. The flags are much more modern, more technical and more detailed than before – underscoring the comprehensive redesign of the entire car."
The C7 is to take pride of place at a gala unveiling in Detroit on January 13th and will build on a sporting heritage dating back to 1953, when the first Corvette – the C1 – was introduced to the eager public.
Set to go into full production in 2014, the C7 is expected to make its racing debut the year after next and aims to build on previous successes by Corvette Racing, with the team the holders of the most race wins and championships in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).
"With the new Corvette, we set out to build a world-challenging sports car with design, refinement, efficiency and driver engagement that is second to none," commented Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer.
He added that with the C6 taking a clean sweep of the ALMS this year – defeating stiff competition from the likes of Ferrari, Porsche and BMW – the C7 has some big shoes to fill, but the team is confident of future success.
Further details of the new vehicle are set to be released by the manufacturer over the coming weeks.
