Alfa Romeo has completed a number of outdoor weather tests for its new 4C model, with the vehicle predicted to hit the market in 2014.

Spied taking to the test track at a Michigan expressway last week, the model looks surprisingly similar to the 4C concept that debuted last year, with the production variant possibly set to be unveiled as early as the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March, sources have stated.

Featuring a 1.75-litre turbocharged petrol engine and delivering horsepower in excess of 200 bhp, the 4C is not going to be a slouch in terms of performance and the model’s stunning aesthetic looks likely to set it apart from the crowd.

It has a sleek design which really captures the vibrancy and daring of the Italian marque, which is a good thing indeed as the vehicle is set to enter the highly competitive arena of affordable sports coupes – going up against such heavyweights as the Subaru BRZ, Toyota GT86 and Peugeot RCZ.

With cold weather testing now complete for the model, the vehicle manufacturer will shift its attention to fine-tuning performance and the final aesthetics of the vehicle.

What is clear from this latest outing of the 4C and the stir it has created is that when it does come to market, there will certainly be a lot of enthusiastic buyers keen to get their hands on the latest Alfa baby.

Last year was a particularly good period for Alfa Romeo, with the manufacturer witnessing excellent sales and also updating its iconic Giulietta model.

The Giulietta underwent an overhaul that saw the vehicle installed with the latest driver aids and technologies – including Alfa’s Twin Clutch Transmission (TCT) system.

Aimed at improving responsiveness and drivability, TCT is a semi-automatic transmission which delivers improved fuel efficiency, higher performance and lower emissions. However, it remains unclear as yet whether TCT will be installed as standard in the new 4C.
