However, for the more energy conscious drivers, a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine is also on offer.The car was unveiled at Ford’s ‘Go Further’ event in Barcelona, with an audience of around 2,500 journalists, dealers and employees in attendance to be wowed by the latest Mustang development.Ford has said the new fastback and convertible models will deliver “world-class” levels of performance and refinement.Raj Nair, vice president for Ford group’s Global Product Development team, said the Ford Mustang conveys passion like no other car possibly can.“The visceral look, sound and performance of Mustang resonate with people, even if they’ve never driven one. Mustang is definitely more than just a car – it is the heart and soul of Ford,” he said.Some nine million Mustangs have been sold since it made its debut in 1964 and has become an iconic image of the US. The muscle car has been seen on television, on the silver screen and in video games over the years, and is at the top of many drivers’ dream car wish lists.According to Stephen Odell, Ford executive vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa, the car represents “freedom and optimism” – a value that is understood even in countries that do not yet sell the model.“The new Mustang epitomises Ford’s aggressive product acceleration; technologically advanced and forward-looking, but without forgetting the heritage that has inspired Ford customers for generations,” he added.With the Mustang making a full-scale trip across the Atlantic for the first time, can Europeans expect the model to be a watered-down version of the popular American car? Of course not. The model represents everything that a Mustang has and will ever be and maintains high-standards in performance, driving dynamics and usability.It still maintains that muscular frame and keeps the same design features, including a low roof height, wide frame and sleek profile. Furthermore, it features a newly modeled interpretation of the signature shark-bite front fascia.Those who pick-up the the convertible version will also benefit from the standard multilayer cloth top that helps to achieve an upscale look and a quiet cabin.When it comes to the EcoBoost version, drivers shouldn’t necessarily expect a reduction in performance, just because CO2 emissions are reduced.Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak said: “This EcoBoost engine delivers where a Mustang driver expects it to with a broad, flat torque curve that pours out when you stand on it for easy passing or hustling down a twisty road.” "},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
Mustang revving up for European launch
https://smart-motoring.com/sports-performance-prestige-cars/mustang-revving-up-for-european-launch/#breadcrumbitem"}]}]
