MINI has been having fun with its latest creation and has now presented a series of computerised images of the model speeding around the track and showing-off its abilities and desirable look.
The MINI John Cooper Works Concept is designed to deliver a go-kart-like feel when behind the wheel, while delivering an accessible model with everyday usability.
It follows on from the previously successful version, but also improves the elite sports model, upping the entertainment value in the small-car market.
The car will make its official debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit but the manufacturer has already issued a number of images to whet the appetites of fans with a soft-spot for the sporty speedster.
It displays innovative sportiness and includes an exclusive paint job, with familiar red MINI accents, while the shape incorporates improved aerodynamic capabilities.
The sporty driving feel is created through precise engineering, achieved by the combination of an ultra-high-performance powertrain and chassis technology, alongside the smooth body shape to ensure the car is agile and sure-footed when on the move.
It takes the latest-generation MINI as its starting point, utilising the longer wheelbase and wider track seen in the new models. These design features are also used to improve the handling and driving characteristics.
However, the concept has aimed to drop as little weight as possible, making it even more responsive and nimble – especially in the corners. It is even more powerful and punchy than its original incarnation.
Other technical developments to aid its track abilities include added large air intakes, with the fog lights making way to facilitate this. The front apron features LED headlights and a black surround, making the car just that little bit meaner when on the starting grid.
The car also includes a number of features to improve the vehicle’s air channelling, making it more efficient and speedy, in addition to significantly improving balance.
According to the manufacturer, the exclusive paint work exudes “purity and solidity”, with a red roof and spoiler contrasting the silver body. The ‘Chili Red’ stripes on the bonnet and boot also give it that typically sporty-feel, while the transition to white stripes for the roof makes it just that little bit more desirable.
The rear of the vehicle features a further sporting design in the centre apron, with a sports exhaust system adorned with the innovative John Cooper Works silencer system, twin tailpipes and a gleaming chrome finish.
If you were ever to forget what the vehicle is, the car is fitted with John Cooper Works logo all over.
The car is expected to undergo further development work before it is fully revealed in Detroit next year, with early predictions suggesting the engine will have a soundtrack truly fitting to its sporty aesthetic.
If it looks anything like the original concept designs, and performs as well around the track as MINI seems to think it will, the latest model is sure to be quite the addition to MINI’s already glowing repertoire.
