The American International Motor Show in Detroit is now less than a week away and the world’s best manufacturers are ready to exhibit their latest offerings at the first of 2014’s biggest vehicle events.
One of the many brands that will be on display is Mercedes-Benz, with the company revving up for the launch of its latest compact SUV design.
The Mercedes GLA 45 AMG model is delivered as a “dynamic statement” of what the company can achieve when it comes to the ever-expanding smaller performance car.
It is, according the the manufacturer, the most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine in the world. The 2.0-litre engine is capable of achieving 360hp and 450 Nm of torque, helping it to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.8 seconds, while delivering an electronically limited top-speed of 155 mph.
The car is fitted with the AMG 4MATIC all wheel-drive system as standard, as well as the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission, making the model both sporty and efficient at the same time.
Despite its quality performance levels, the car remains within the EU 6 guidelines for carbon efficiency, with fuel consumption of 37.6 mph and CO2 emissions of 175g/km.
The car looks like it’s got a bit of edge too, with Mercedes gearing the vehicle towards a young demographic. It is intended to offer great style, dynamics and independence for the driver.
A large, athletic front grille and extended headlights give the car that extra attitude, which is sure to entice motorists to buy. It also seems muscular in its delivery, exuding strength and power just through aesthetics alone.
The design is also extremely aerodynamic, achieved through a larger front splitter, rear spoiler and carbon-fibre exterior.
Sports performance is enhanced through the use of AMG sports suspension and the AMG high-performance braking system, making the car ultra-responsive exactly when you need it to be.
The steering is also tuned to deliver a sports-like feel and delivery, increasing precision and agility when on track on the road.
Tobias Moers, chairman of the board of management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said the concept was a success at its world premiere as part of the Los Angeles International Auto Show, leading to the release of a full production model.
“Currently there is no segment growing faster than that of compact SUVs. For Mercedes-AMG it is therefore a logical step to make a dynamic statement in this segment with the GLA 45 AMG,” he added.
“Our new high-performance-SUV not only offers the world’s most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine, but also impressively low fuel consumption and emissions figures. Not least on account of the performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive, the GLA 45 AMG is a true AMG when it comes to driving dynamics.”
Furthermore, the classy image of the car can be enhanced through the optional upgrade of privacy windows.
The style continues inside, with a brushed aluminium instrument panel and brushed stainless-steel AMG front door sills.
Upholstered leather seats and a unique seating shape helps to provide comfort and support, with safety improved through the installation of head restraints and red designo safety belts.
